Parenting Coordination: Parenting Coordination is for parents who cannot get along after they are divorced. The parties must request that the Court appoint a Parenting Coordinator (PC). See Arizona Rules of Family Law Procedure, Rule 74 and the fee for the PC is paid in advance. The PCs job is to enforce the Court ordered Parenting Plan. She cannot change the plan substantively, but she can “fine-tune” and assist when issues about scheduling arise. She also can make recommendations about choice of school and other education related disputes, health and religion issues. She acts as a referee and attempts to mediate disputes. The PC, however, is more than a mediator. She has the power to make recommendations about disputed issues to the Court. After she makes the recommendation, either party may file an objection and then the Judge will set a hearing. The Judge makes all final decisions.
After an initial one hour meeting with each party individually and review of all relevant documents, e.g. Court orders, Custody Evaluation, prior PC reports, I conduct all dispute resolution by email. Each party emails the other and copies me. When they cannot agree on an issue, they request that I make a recommendation.
